You may think this sounds ridiculous. When I first moved to the United States, I was really afraid of going into small towns. If my cellphone lost connection in these places, I would panic! This was all because I watched too many scary Hollywood movies! The setting in those thrillers tend to be in some small towns, abandoned urban neighborhoods.

This is just a perfect example to show that when we have limited information and understanding, we fill in the blanks with our imagination and sometimes we just scare ourselves because some of us like to think of what could be the worst.

Throughout the years, I conquered my fear by traveling with local friends. When I traveled, I interacted with people and learned about the local culture. Obviously I am still lucky enough to not have become one of the characters in those horror movies.

Now, I love small towns for their unique charm. I still wouldn't travel there by myself, but I love exploring small towns with my photography peers. These places tend to have unique and interesting characteristic. If it is an abandoned town, you can take photos however you want to be careful about people judging you or interfering.
