Flying in a breeze
As a traveler, I am a late bloomer. As far as I can recall, I had never flied until I was around 21yrs old. Since then I have been having plenty of opportunities to get in the air due to my move across the ocean.
Flying international is a different story compared to flying domestic. When I travel within the United States, it is usually is less than 5 hrs. WIth flight connections, I didn’t feel like I was in the airplane that long. While traveling abroad, the flying time can easily be more than 10 hrs. Even flying a straight 6-7 hrs can feel like forever.
In recent years, I have developed the habit of traveling with a jacket that has multiple pockets. This has become essential for me and it has definitely made my life easier. For the basic reasons, a jacket pocket is a good place to keep your passport and a pen. When traveling internationally, you may have to fill in a custom form or an immigration form near the end of your flight. With your passport and pen in your jacket pocket, you don’t have get up to dig them out of your bag.
You may think I get crazy with my preparation, other than last two items I mentioned, I also have my earphones and my USB charging cable in my jacket pocket. Sometimes, I even have an external power bank with me. Some airline companies like American Airlines still don’t have a USB charging port. During my recent flight with them, I could only find a charging port that looks like what you have in your car. I apologize that I don’t even know what to call it. My neighboring passenger and I were both laughing about the odd option we found.
I don’t always remember the next item, but I certainly appreciated having a travel pillow during my last trip. Unless you are flying first class or business class, a travel pillow sure helps to position your head during a long flight. I have a blown up travel pillow that I can let the air out, and then fold it up and store it in my large jacket pocket.
Due to the reason I don’t read much, I find it is important to download some shows and movies to watch on the airplane. In addition to that, try to have some mindless games on your iPhone, this will be helpful too. I don’t usually play games in my daily life, but playing some mindless repetitive games can help me get through the trip easier. You may think you can depend on the in flight entertainment, but I can tell you they are not always dependable. I have an experience of having a broken screen and it was a full flight, there was no way I got to switch seats. Therefore, I encourage you to always be prepare, occasionally the available movie options are just not great.
Pretty sure there are many things you can do to make your trip better. I am looking forward to hear your tips!
