Night in Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho

If there is a must go place in Tokyo that I would need to come up with, I would immediately think of Omoide Yokocho in Shinjuku! It is also called "Memory Lane" or "Piss Alley." I know the name "Piss Alley" may not sound good, but it is one of the most unique experiences you can get in Tokyo!

Some people also call it Yakitori alley because there are so many tiny restaurants lined up in the alley that mostly sell delicious Yakitori (Grilled skewered meat). These tiny restaurants generally can only sit 8-10 people, however some of them may have extra seating upstairs. Eating at restaurants like this, you have the experience of being really up close with the restaurant owner/chef. In recent years, because there was a huge surge of tourists from China, some local restaurants actually hired workers from China to accommodate the shifting demographic of tourists. It could be good for business and is more convenient for many Chinese tourists, but sadly it does take away the uniqueness.
