Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Cameras' Low Light Performance

If you are into reading this, I am sure you have heard about how great the cameras are on the Samsung S23 Ultra, and you probably have encountered endless moon shots that users have shared. One thing S23 Ultra users love the most is likely to be the zoom feature. As a photographer, I have been told millions of times that zooming is unimportant. They said, use your feet. No, sometimes it is impossible to get closer without a zoom lens. I think setting a rule or a standard is the old style of photography; I would instead set myself free of restriction to capture what I want, using the method I prefer.

Now, one thing I haven't explored much on my S23 Ultra is shooting at night or in the dark. I was rarely interested in night photography or anything involving darkness during my photography journey. Recently, I got a chance to visit Longwood Gardens to see the holiday lights they set up. Since I wanted to test my DJI Osmo Pocket 3, I didn't bring more cameras. I did enjoy filming with my OP3 but wished I brought a camera. Then I thought, why not try the night mode on my S23 Ultra? Most of the pictures you are seeing were shot using the Night mode in the native camera app, and some were simply in Auto mode. All the photos were taken handheld without a tripod. I am sharing these without post-editing so you can examine the result yourself. In short, I am quite impressed by what the phone can do, especially in Night mode. Some scenes were shot outdoors in the dark, and I love how these turned out. I appreciate that the cameras didn't try to brighten up the scenes as if they were in broad daylight. The S23 Ultra struck a good balance in terms of light and shadow and helped me capture the memories I treasure.
