Why should you be on YouTube?

People frequently talk about YouTube monetization because it is one of the most promising paying social media platforms. Unfortunately, most social media monetization programs are vague regarding eligibility, but YouTube has always been clear about its YouTube Partner Program requirement. To be eligible to apply to the YouTube Partner Program, you would need to frequently upload new videos and gain 1000 subscribers and 4000 view hours in one year.

Why should you choose YouTube instead of other social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, or Facebook? The answer is simple but brutal. Social media is dead. We are exhausted from oversharing behavior; even though short-form content could give you a quick laugh, in the end, they are forgettable. Maybe you would argue that some videos did get viral, but fame dwindles in the end, and the frequent short-term success merely leads to unhealthy screen addiction. The false promises of fame and profit from most social media platforms often take you nowhere other than dismissing self-confidence and endless thoughts of self-doubt.

When you live long enough, you see the pendulum swing; all trends come and go. Contradicting what we are seeing, how short-form videos are taking over the internet, eventually, people will get tired of oversharing, repetitive, self-absorb content. Instead of chasing a short-term trend, it is much more promising to create on YouTube, as we have seen it performs like a pillar of strength throughout the years, regardless of how other social media threaten its place. It is not hard to fathom why YouTube is an ideal video platform compared to its competitors. Snapchat came and went, Twitter is aging, Instagram is a mess, and do you still remember Tumblr? Tiktok is full of teenagers who will grow out of it and older generations hanging on to their dismissing youth.

The reason why YouTube is staying is that when things slow down in life, we want to take our time to consume content instead of rapidly scrolling through our phone screen, causing early senior arthritis. In addition, it is harder to build a community when people simply watch your short-form video and then move on to other creators immediately. Most of the time, people are not interested in knowing who you are as a content creator. It is like shopping for preloved clothing in Goodwill; keep flipping through the hangers instead of caring for a brand when you shop at a regular boutique.
