Drawing People

Fountain pen drawing of a fashionable girl in my Moleskine pocket notebook

For years, I have been trying out how I like to draw people. Being traditionally trained, I constantly want to make my portraits look realistic.

I know that the ultra-realistic art style is trendy online because people are fascinated by how you can make a drawing or painting look so real.

Based on my experience, many people are able to achieve that style by being patient and willing to put in a lot of hard work.

As a photographer, I do not want to make art that looks like what I can create in photography; that would feel repetitive and redundant.

However, drawing freely and creating a unique style is much more challenging than I could imagine. Regardless of how much I practice and try, I often feel like my leg is being pulled. The more I practiced, the more realistic my drawing became, which was not the goal.

Art is a journey, and I am glad to be on that path. I am trying to draw and practice as much as possible, and hopefully, one day, I will find a style that suits my preference.
